Telemedicine to simplify healthcare in India

(Last Updated On: March 10, 2021)

India has progressed greatly in terms of healthcare infrastructure development. Since 1953, access to healthcare facilities, especially doctors, has increased 17 times. However, there is still a need to further simplify healthcare as many individuals, especially those residing in the rural part of the country, struggle to get the right treatment at the right time thereby lowering our standard of living. With various technological advancements, India must adopt telemedicine practices now. These include remote diagnosis and treatment of patients by means of telecommunication technology. There is a need to connect people across the country to the right medical facilities. Telemedicine has the potential to bridge this gap and simplify the healthcare system. People dwelling in rural areas without healthcare specialists nearby need to undertake excursions to the closest cities for proper medical care. Travel delays lead to complications, sometimes even to the loss of life thereby raising severe requirements to simplify healthcare in the country. Telemedicine offers prospects to simplify healthcare, and it is a solution that provides more than a mere planned video conferencing administration. Telemedicine provides the conveyance of medical care, where distance is an essential factor, by connecting experts to those individuals who lack access to health amenities and thereby simplify healthcare concerns among them. The doctors utilise communication technologies to diagnose the patient and provide subsequent medication, follow-up examination, and assessment as per the patients’ requirements. Telemedicine further creates a network of medical service providers that ensure the patient has access to all medical supplies necessary to overcome their ailment. Digitising medicine can simplify the healthcare system to a great extent. With the changing behaviour of patients and doctors and increased digital connectivity in the country, the telemedicine industry has grown significantly but is far from its goal to simplify the healthcare system. The biggest roadblock for digital medicine is consumer awareness. Once the population truly understands & accepts this new platform, there will be no looking back. The best way to simplify healthcare in India is to create an effective ecosystem around the patient by using telemedicine technology.
